The monsoon of 2025 has made its entry with fierce fury in various parts of India. Though it has provided some relief from the heat, it has also caused hazardous situations. From South India to the Northeast, day-to-day life has been severely impacted. Most states are on alert as rain pours continuously, accompanied by thunderstorms and floods.
Widespread Rainfall Disrupts Life Across South India
South India is experiencing serious disruption because of relentless rain. Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Goa and Maharashtra have been lashed with rain from early morning. The regions are experiencing waterlogging and poor visibility, resulting in making day-to-day movement challenging.
Thunderstorms and lightning have been experienced in most locations. The situation could become worse in the days to come, says the Indian monsoon alert Meteorological Department (IMD). The alert for heavy rain continues as cloud systems stay active over the area.
Mumbai Braces for Monsoon Rage, IMD Issues Warning
In Mumbai, the monsoon has disrupted life. Heavy showers have been pouring since morning and are showing no signs of slowing. Roads are waterlogged and traffic flow has reached a standstill. The IMD has forecasted even more intensive rainfall between June 16 and 18 as a weather system is developing over the Bay of Bengal.
This system is likely to become stronger while progressing towards Odisha and Chhattisgarh. It may then proceed further northward towards Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan by June 19 and 20. Though some weakening thereafter is likely, light to moderate rains may once again strike Mumbai from June 21.
Bihar Awaits, While UP Remains Dry
Bihar residents can expect the monsoon to arrive soon, ending their wait. Clouds are already present over the region, and rainfall may begin any time. However, for Uttar Pradesh, the wait continues. IMD has not confirmed any immediate movement of the monsoon over the state, and people will need to be patient for some more days.
Northeastern States on High Alert: Floods and Landslides Likely
The north-eastern belt is also being hit by heavy rain. Warnings have been given by IMD for regions such as Puducherry, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh. The warnings have been further extended to Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, and Nagaland. The rains are so heavy that landslides are dreaded in the hill regions. Local governments have recommended staying indoors and not going out unless one must. Flood-like situations have already been witnessed in some areas, adding to the worry.
